457 AD: RELEASE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Fellow gamers and old roleplayers,
It's been long time since I last posted in here. I'm happy to announce 457 AD has been finally released on MODDB.
This mod took me months (well, 2 years) of researches through old scholarly papers and archeological reports on finds from Scotland to Pakistan and from Morocco to the Altai Mountains, we spent hours and hours modelling new items according to our sources in order to provide you with authentic "living" history and loyal reproductions of ancient weapons and armors, unlike many other games do even if claiming historical accuracy (cough, emh, Attila, cough..). We tried to do our best to prepare a polished and stable mod for you to enjoy the turbulent years that will lead to the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the traditional beginning of the Middle Ages.
That being said, the mod does not only strive for total historical accuracy (which sadly won't be entirely possible due to game limitations and ofc limited knowledge on the time period) but also provides you with many cool features worthy of the best mods in Warband downloadable on MODDB or on Nexus. The mod has tons of quests, hidden locations and points of interest, special items and events triggered by time and renown. The player also has the chance to start as a king (or just as a vassal) of one of the most important early-states of the period. Diplomacy and Freelancer are part of the game as well as some new scripts and codes to make the game more interesting.
The mod features tons of cultures and regional subcultures as well as many new scenes, new music, shaders, UI and more.
I sincerly hope you guys will give this mod a go and will download it from MODDB following this link: www.moddb.com/mods/457ad/downloads . Make sure to download the latest version and the patch and if you want to stay tuned and have news regarding the future and the new expansions of the mod join our discord even for a simple chat!
I know, now, most of you have been thinking "this is cool and all, but what about Krenn's multiplayer mod?"
You guys hit a nerve here. The community who once crowded the roleplay servers on Persistent Kingdom or Persistent World seems now to be gone, for good. Many new players moved to other games, others are probably tired of Warband and the community in general. It made me realize I was probably developing the mod for no one as I dont think there's a reliable community able to play on a new mod. Although, I want this to be clear, I don't intend to abandon the development of a future and hypothetical multiplayer mod, but it won't be my priority, gaming wise, anymore. I will now focus mainly on expanding 457 AD focusing on the russian steppes and central Asia which for the moment are mainly empty.
However, if I see things start to change I might speed up the development a bit to finally make the multiplayer mod a thing. In the meantime, I once again recommend you to download the singleplayer mod and give it a go! Heaven forbid you might fall in love with Late Antiquity and the Migration Era.
Special thanks for this mod of course go to Oliver, first, who's the main developer of the mod and made incredible progresses modelling and scripting from when he started developing the mod in 2019. Many other thanks go to all the other modders and modelers who helped us, such as Antonis, Maxi, Tocan, borrisnator , Forster, Lanjane, Anoldretiredelephant, GulagEnabler, Jackson. Many other special thanks go to our cCc_0leg_cCc for all the shield patterns and art, as well as Beadurof and Sea. Mapping wise thanks to racial boundary transcender , jeb , sagemcquincy and many others. About the historical sources I have to thank dr. Evan Schultheis, dr. Nadeem Ahmad, professor Alexandr Simonenko, professor Bartosz Kontny and many others.
We still need help developing a mod, so if you're a mapper, concept artist, scripter or else just hit me up! This is a good project that can also serve as portfolio experience.
