why do rhodoks need to have their own lingo now when swadians and rhodoks have shared common in just about every prior scenario
Agreed, just a bit daft to change the lore perspective all of a sudden and for one faction to be able to hide behind a language where the other one can't (especially as it is really a 2 way culture 'war') isn't really on.
why do rhodoks need to have their own lingo now when swadians and rhodoks have shared common in just about every prior scenario
This is a topic still under discussion, but my take on it is...
During Krenn 2 the Swadians spoke a dialect of common called Sunoese common which was already very much different than Imperial common, which was (and still is) the more mainstream version of the common language.
In Rhodokia they spoke Imperial common (minus Yalen which spoke a more primitive version of Sunoese common).
After the Empire fell, the Swadians ate up parts of Sturgia and the Empire, which led to their version of common "romantizing" into what you can consider early French.
They also conquered Rhodokia, but it was a brief occupation that was broken fairly quickly, and the era of supremacy of each Rhodok city (Yalen-Veluca-Jelkala) inside the confederation, and influence from Sharizian refuges, Geroians, Balionese and people from the Emerald isles, turned the common spoken in Rhodokia into a much different dialect, and eventually a language of its own.
This was thought of to give Rhodoks their own identity and culture instead of the.. "EYO MOUNTAIN SWADIAN GANG HERE, OI CUNT PIKEMAN SWADIAN ERE, I DRINK WINE IN A FUNNY WAY SWADIAN".
However, it is still something under discussion.
After the lore team brainstorms this thorough i will make a language thread to help.

dude just stop who’s gonna accept some bullshit lore for the reason he can’t interact with someone because he’s speaking a different language with him, just make some makerist schism as a reason for animosity between the two nations beside the war
Think it adds a level of complexity that is not needed and is also somewhat pointless, because the scenario is about the mixture of two cultures that bare similiarities, being the reason they can co-exist in places like Nomar, Vyincourd and Ergellon.
Dialects are fine, doesn't mean a new language. The entire playerbase is already used to the fact that Rhodokians and Swadians use the same common tongue, so no need to change that, because it will just result in some/most people just adding Rhodokian to their second language. Then that will also make the prospect of having different types of other foreign people not as unique of a sight in this quite inner region.
Yes, that is why this topic is still under discussion. I do not personally support making Rhodok and Swadian a separate language, but that is what I imagine is the reason for the language break-away.
