Welcome to Krenn Roleplay! This guide (along with the Rules) contains everything a new player with zero roleplaying experience needs to start playing on the server properly, while also offering links for further information should you find it interesting.
What is Krenn Roleplay?
Krenn Roleplay is unlike any other server on Mount and Blade. We aim to provide a true RPG experience inside the game, where every character is unique and deep. The player's goal is not to create a warband, attack a castle and create a faction that last an afternoon. It is an evolving and lasting world with realistic interactions. If that sounds interesting to you, welcome aboard!
We use the mod Persistent Kingdoms, which you can download here. After that, just find us on the server browser!

1. YOUR CHARACTER
Creating Your Character
Everyone on the server has an original character to call their own. Some plot their story and write thousands of words into their biography. Others want to get started as soon as possible. We all share the goal of having a gripping experience with characters that have a life of their own.
A character needs a name, so you cannot come to the server without one. Here are some acceptable names:
- Aegeus_Adopolii
- Cyril
- Nawfal_al_Saah
- Roderic
Unacceptable names that will make a loremaster die on the inside:
- King_Harlaus
- British_Samurai
- Xx_Minecraft_xX
- 11th_Pvt_John_Newton
Do remember Mount and Blade is loosely based on a medieval setting, so that comes with a few limitations as to what sort of characters you may create:
- Very few people were literate. Not even all nobles, clergy and the rich can read. Literacy is a circumstantial skill very few people had a strong reason to learn.
- Women are frowned upon for carrying a sword and no self-respecting faction will allow a shieldmaiden to join its ranks. No father would teach his daughter to fight.
- Open homosexuality or atheism was social suicide.
- Criticizing the nobility or church was asking to be beaten up.
We are not saying you cannot be a lesbian swordswoman, but that it's very hard to have you bio accepted and almost all characters will hate you. Now with that being said, a closeted gay, an outsider woman forced to survive on her own or a cynical scholar have the potential to be great characters if done properly.
You do not need a biography. You can easily log in the server with nothing but the clothes on your back and start your saga. That said, a biography comes with many advantages you may want to be aware of:
- May officially join factions.
- May apply for professions, literacy and nobility.
- Request free starter equipment.
- Access to the forum ticket system (refunds, character kills, name changes, etc.)

Applications
A biography may require certain applications to go alongside it.
- Do you want to be a smith, fletcher, carpenter, tanner, tailor, jeweler or physician?
- Do you want to play a special character?
- Do you want to be a noble?
Then you need an application for that. Check out them out here.
All apps need to be approved before we accept your biography, but don’t worry! You may post them all at the same time and we’ll simply ask you to bump the bio thread when the apps are approved.
A noble app is a huge deal and only a few are accepted. It is expected for a noble to have significant experience. Noble apps are voted by all staff and discussed in meetings.
"Special characters" are akin to nobles, in the sense they are made by ambitious players with an unique for a character that also wants to selflessly and actively provide roleplay for the community. Also like nobles, they come under increased supervision from staff. They are entitled to better quality gear and more money.
Tickets
The tickets section act as the help section. If you lost something and want a refund, wish to change something on the database, want to kill a character or any other thing you need, this is the place.
Check them out here.
Understanding The World
- You do not need to read the lore in depth. It is highly recommend for you to at least have a general understanding of your religion and what is going on in Calradia, but additional pieces of lore are exactly that: additional.
- Erotic Role-Play (ERP) is banned on this server and will result in a permanent ban. If need be, take this to a third party chat application.
- While the society of Krenn RP does not tolerate warrior women, it is notably more egalitarian than the medieval world. Women may have any profession and enjoy much freedom.
- Noble characters are more than just being high-born. It means that they are highly active players meant to be a pillar of the roleplaying community - they posses significant power and are expected to create roleplaying opportunities for everyone.
- The death of a character is a big deal. When you are “killed” on the game as your health reaches zero, it is interpreted that your character is unconscious and wounded from combat. In order to be killed, either both parties must consent or a character kill ticket by the aggressor against the victim must have been approved before-hand by the staff.
- If you are wounded, you must roleplay it. You cannot fight or resist emotes for the duration of the wound timer. You have to wait until the wound timer runs out during in-game time to consider yourself fit again. If you have been treated by a physician, the timer will go down much faster and while you are offline.
A Bit About The Lore
The year is 1275. The Swadian Kingdom is in crisis. For ten years in a row the great grass plains of Swadia have run red with blood. It began when friends and relatives of the dead King Esterich rose up in rebellion against his successor, King Harlaus, who they denounced as a self-serving usurper. The war cleaved the realm in two, and Swadia’s barbarian neighbors, the Vaegirs and Khergits, wasted no time in exploiting the disorder to settle old scores and reclaim some of their ancestral lands. After four years of fighting, the so-called Estericher Party had finally put Harlaus to the sword and installed their old liege’s daughter, Isolla, as queen of Swadia. But in the meantime Khergit hordes had thundered out of their steppes and conquered the County of Reindi, and a determined Vaegir invasion pushed as far south as Amere - nearly a third of the kingdom was lost to foreigners while Swadian fought Swadian. Tilbaut County suffered the worst part of the war, which is where the scenario takes place - Elain Valley, which has descended into a seemingly lawless place is split up by many separate factions, either vying for power or just trying to survive.
The common religion of all is Makerism. It is lightly based upon Christianity but has many fantasy additions. It revolves around the Maker, the creator of the universe, and his children - many of whom have a large impact on the world of Calradia. There are certain Makerist paths or cults that deviate from original Makerism as well.
2. PLAYING ON THE SERVER
Emotes & Rolls
Emotes are descriptions of what your character does. Like in a book, it is recommended for them to be concise instead of verbose in order to be easily readable and for roleplay to be quick and not a waiting round. Emotes also represent actions between characters. When an emote is unfair and doesn’t let the other person react, it is called powergaming. And in true RPG fashion, when two parties on the server are at odds, success or failure is dictated by rolls. A roll randomly chooses a number between a 0 and a specified number up until 100. The party that rolls a bigger number than the other succeeds.
Communication & Commands
The server has many scripts which are meant to enable a rich experience. Here's the simplest of them that everyone needs to know.
Local Chat: Press Q to bring up Local Chat. It is used for IC interactions, commands and it has a limited range to simulate hearing range. Whatever you type here automatically gets turned into a quote of what your character speaks.
Shouting: Type your normal message in Local Chat and press Right Shift + Enter to shout and be heard from father away.
Whisper: Type /w before your message to whisper. It has a very small hearing radius.
Global Chat: Press T to bring up Global Chat. It is rarely used and everything is OOC.
Admin Chat: Press Backspace to use Admin Chat and request help from staff.
Gestures, Voicelines and Music: Press - to access a menu. Here you can make your character perform various gestures (like cheering, kneeling and sitting), say out loud famous Mount & Blade voicelines and should you have an instrument with you, play from a selection of beautiful songs.
Help: The simplest of commands, /help displays all the commands on the server. Don't worry, most people don't have to learn how to use all of them.
Description: Up to 3 ready-to-use messages to quickly describe your character. Type /setdesc 1-3 Text to set one description and /desc 1, 2 or 3 to use it.
Action: Use /me to describe an action your character performs.
Description: Use /my to describe your character or an object.
Roll: Type /roll 1-100 to choose a random number between 0 and the number your chose.
OOC: Use // before your message to speak out of character.
Inventory: Use /inv or /i to access your inventory and swap around items.
Terminology:
IC: In-character. Anything that happened inside the world.
OOC: Out-of-character. Anything that happens outside of roleplay.
FL: Faction leader.
CK: Character Kill. The definitive end for a character.
Powergaming: Emoting in a way that does not allow the other person to react. Example: *John brings Robert down from his horse and quickly stabs him in the chest*. Emotes must be reasonable and rolled for.
ERP: Erotic Role-Play. While it may encompass flirtation and romance, it is generally used as a term for roleplaying sex between characters.
FTB: Fade to Black. ERP without any description. It means both characters had sex and jumped straight to when it ended. This is allowed as there are no descriptive emotes.
Scenario: The map and setting that roleplay takes place. For example, we are on "Krenn 5" taking place in Elain Valley, while the scenario of Krenn 1 took place in an eponymous little town in West Vlandia, Krenn 2 happened in the imperial city of Caraf, and Krenn 3 evolved around the war between the Vaegirs and the Swadians.
Bump: The act of writing a comment in order to bring the thread up in the list and bring attention to it.
What Staff Does
Owner: Wlodowiec, God-Emperor of all Mankind. Unfortunately, he cannot yet wield his power so he must content with leading us instead. Overlooks the server and ensures it has a good direction. and arraknia
Community Manager: Very similar to the above. Generally responsible for making sure everything is well and taking over responsibilities when the owner isn’t available.
Admins: Manages tickets, requests, complaints, spawning stuff, vote for nobles and organizations.
Trial Admins: Same as admins with the exception being they can’t manage CK tickets.
Moderators: Takes care of the forums. Approves biographies and applications, controls toxic behaviour.
Lore Masters: Responsible for creating the world. That means explaining the cultures and religions of Calradia, thus establishing a comprehensive and rich basis for players to create a character. Also may take the roles of moderators.
Event Masters: Handles the events and entertain the players daily on the server.
