What does a Herbalist actually do? Both RP wise but also what the hell do they actually practically like mechanically in the game, can they make like potions or something?
Help doctors, noblewomen, foodmakers, assassinations(!?), etc. There are just too many things to add here, it's a pretty cool profession too if you ask me, versatile as fuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Looks good on paper but you´ll hardly get to such things in the actual RP, doctors will heal on mass you can just sell them herbs, food makers will mostly just spam out bread or pies and sell on mass (of course you can help the tavern or so if they are up for some more RP) and assassinations are really never happening as RPing it is extremely complicated and hard, and you can still just left click the poor bastard

Gotta think outside of the box pal, back in the good ol' days when people weren't that biased with their RP, those "extreme" situations or the "on paper" stuff, were the actual norm. As I've played both an assassin sort of dude that used herbs and other shit back in CRP1, I can definetly tell you it's pretty damn possible to do a loooooot with that profession by yourself, but you can also inspire the classic, "checks wound/heals wound" doctor by adding that more complex element on his RP. It's mostly a profession that can help others profit through RP interactions, aswell as yourself, not usefull OOCly wise but very good to immerse people.
For me it seems that the Herbalist is a jack of all trades but master of none cause they can't actually do something specific to them that others can't. Like what makes them different from all the other classes is that they neither can use a special item like surgeon/hunter/musician and they can't craft special items like all the other crafting classes.
They definently seem like more of a passive character rp thingy but sadly this has just made it so that no one wants to play them atleast judging by "Currently held professions".
What you can do as a herbalist is actually up to your fantasy. Make a interesting one. And invent a cure for something. Like how Bilolus RPed a female leprosy surgeon and found a cure for leprosy (not 100 percent working but it prevented her from dying). Do something similair. Make up a interesting concept. Find a illness or something else like a drug. Just full use your fantasy. I RPed once as a herbalist and experimented with drug herbs. Found a rare herb and researched it, turned out to be a very rare flower. Effects? Up to you! So for those saying RPing a herbalist may be hard. If you're a passive player with a lot of fantasy you can do a lot.
And its fun ofcourse if you go more in-depth to ask the surgeons what herbs etc they use since a lot just do simple emotes and barely know anything about surgery RP despite having a accepted prof app.
Fantasy is a key! But keep it within a realistic boundary though.

This. I played a herbalist on Darkmyre, and my rule of thumb was to always make medical rp more interesting than the usual surgeon clean-sew-bandage routine. In my free time I'd mix drinks for other players. For lesser ailments I'd make pain killers, stomach settlers, and similar. For more serious cases, I'd get more professional (frankly, cleaning and sewing wounds isn't immensely difficult. In fact, having a herbalist may actually improve your chances of survival) without sacrificing the premise of the profession (I forget what the herb is, but one helps blood clot significantly faster. The herbalism guide is absolutely indispensable for the record). Your ability to treat internal, possibly fatal symptoms makes you a vital resources when dealing with illnesses, whereas most surgeons tend to only handle injuries.
I even sort of became the server's therapist, since the Nords were constantly having mental breakdowns. The hedge wizard/witch premise is actually incredibly versatile. It allows you to fill roles that'd otherwise be outside the norm of a surgeon.
As for the mechanical differences, there are none. You can heal people and treat wounds the same as any surgeon. The differences are entirely based on rp.
I played a herbalist in Pax2. There's certainly alot you can do with it. You have the same functionality as a standard surgeon, getting to /treat wounds and stuff. You also deal with the players ailements whether sickness or mental issues. My char also had an apprentice which was alot of fun. Giving your apprentice tasks like collecting ingredients and mixing medicines is leagues above watching your surgeon master /me stitch wounds.. So I'd say the herbalist is entirely what you make of it. Its pretty diverse. Just as a hunter is not someone who purely shoots deers but also sets snares, catches small game, poaches other lords deer etc A herbalist is not someone who just /treats with some green shrubs. Perhaps you can write a book on the different plants you get in the Uxhal basin, or focus your time on crafting potent poisons. Become a nobles court physician or sell your poisons to the gangs. Don't let what others have done before constrain you in any way!
"Handles the events and entertain the players daily on the server."
I remember a thing Wlodo allowed me to do was creating poisoned daggers, out of regular daggers back on Krenn 1 when i played a herbalist. Although they are not THAT potent (i think they could use a buff) it was a pretty cool thing that could be once more allowed for the class. Expect that i never played a herbalist, always thought of it as abit of no-brainer as they seemed to me as just surgeons. But it could be perhaps because i always just took the two schools together and usually played a surgeon that had some knowledge in herbalism.
herbalists are doctors with different flavour. whoever tells u otherwise is delusional. most of the passive rp you'll want to do will be ignored source: i played one in darkmyre
